O Sunken Kingdom

by David Meiklem

Underneath the glassy sea,
Where only fish will roam,
Lies a fallen kingdom old,
Often spoken of in tome.

For this kingdom became content,
And forgot the terrible former days,
In which the spectre of the shadow,
Had subsided into haze.

But one foul day the demon suddenly returned,
Towns were slaughtered, the villages burned!
The people cried for their redeeming hero,
But such a saviour would never show.

O sunken kingdom,
How I longed to enter thee,
But now you slumber in perpetuity,
Underneath the secretive sea.

As the darkness consumed the land,
With their doom close at hand,
They prayed to the Goddesses above,
To rescue their god-forsaken land.

But Gods have their perverted ways,
And because of their devotion.
The people were saved from ruin,
But Hyrule became an ocean.

O sunken kingdom,
How I longed to enter thee,
But now you slumber in perpetuity,
Underneath the secretive sea.

Bur a remnant survived the flood,
And rebuilt on mountains high.
So the glory days of old ,
Would through legend never die.

Now in islands on the surface,
Your history has been preserved,
But I often contemplated your fate,
Whether it was deserved.

I seek not the distant places,
On the edges of the Great Sea,
Only this mysterious land of legend,
Is the sight mine restless eyes yearn to see.

O sunken kingdom,
How I longed to enter thee,
But now you slumber in perpetuity,
Underneath the secretive sea.
