A New Legend

By Link the Paladin

Prologue: The Fall of Ganon

Link watched as the demon, Ganon fell to his knees, having being delivered a powerful blow by the hero's Biggoron Sword. The impact drove the beasts sword into the earth were his black castle once stood. The wall of fire surrounding the combatants flickered and died as Ganon called back all power trying to remove the massive blade from the rock in which it was embedded.

"Link! The Master Sword is here! Hurry!!" called Zelda as the flames Seperating herself and the Master Sword from Link died completely. Link ran to were the voice of Zelda called from to retrieve his blade, silently cursing himself for having let Ganon knock it from his grasp in the first place, but thankful it hadn't plunged to lava below.

Link raised the sword from were it stuck into the earth near Zelda, and turned to return to his battle with Ganon. No sooner had he turned when his eyes met Zelda's. Time seemed to stop for both for a split second as they met one another's gaze. What was happening between them? Link had never felt such an emotion before now. There was always something about Zelda that Link couldnt place but now it was stronger than ever. Her deep blue eyes gazing into his felt him with a warmth he just couldnt describe... What was happening to him? The expression on Zelda's face seemed to describe the way he was feeling... Was she feeling the same thing? If so what was it?

Before Link had a chance to reflect on this anymore a loud hiss broke the two from their trance-like state. Ganon had nearly freed his blade! Link jumped back into the arena just as the wall of flames shot up once agian.

"Be careful..." Zelda said softly from behind the firey barrier.

"Always..." said Link as he returned to face the beast once more.

Ganon had risen to his feet and was now lumbering towards the Hero of Time, his swords poised ready to strike. Link nocked back an arrow, imbued with the power of light which Zelda had given him only moments before being taken by Ganondorf. He fired the arrow at the demon. It struck.

Ganon hissed in pain as he was stunned by the pure energy of the sacred arrow. Seizing his chance Link steped behind the beast and planted a swift sword strike on it's tail. Ganon cryed in pain as the Master Sword struck.

"Let's see what you've got you bastard!" Link yelled as the beast regained his balance.

Ganon was mad now. Not only had Link caused him pain, he had insulted him. The demons yellow eyes burned with rage and he charged the Hero, hoping to cut this foolish boy in two. Link rolled around as the massive blades came down, hitting nothing but the rocky floor of the arena. Link realized to late that Ganon had swung one of his blades to the left. He had no time to react.

WHAM!

The broad side of the massive blade struck Link's torso sending him flying straight into the wall of fire nearby, ricocheting off of it as if it was a solid mass before finally collapsing to the ground,

"LINK!!!" Zelda screamed in horror as Links body fell to the ground.

Link was down, but he wasnt out just yet. Ganon hadn't quite had the chance to turn to finish him just yet. He was lucky that blow hadn't hit his head or else he would have been in worse condition than he was now. With great effort he readied another Light Arrow and fired it as Ganon turned to face him. It worked, the arrow struck the beast between the eyes, stunning him. Ignoring the terrible pain in his chest and back, Link slowly, and with great effort rose to his feet.

"I'm not dead yet..." Link said producing a small bottle of red liquid from his satchel. Red potion.

Link quickly swallowed the contents, wincing a little at the horrible taste. In seconds the pain in his chest and back receded as his bones were mended, and his scorched flesh repaired itself from the medicine, and soon Link was back to full stength.

The power of the light arrow finally started to fade as Ganon regained control of his body. And started his advance on the hero once more.

"I hope this works..." said Link readying his final Light arrow, and fired. Ganon was expecting it this time and raised one of his mighty blades, blocking the incoming projectile. The arrow spun and struck the ground before desintigrated into nothing.

"Damn!" Link yelled Jumping to avoid the other blade that was set to cleave off his head.

Suddenly Link had an idea, but he had to risk Ganon's next attack for it to work. Link ran toward the beast hoping his plan would work. Ganon lifted his blades above his head at Link's approach hoping to end the Hero's life in his final desperate attempt. Big mistake. Link suddenly put on a burst of speed he'd been holding back and skillfully rolled beneath the demons legs. Before Ganon could realize what had happened Link struck his tail once more with the Master Sword causing the beast to hiss in pain as he fell to the stone floor once agian.

Suddenly a ray of golden light struck Ganon and the beast could no longer move. Link looked to the source of the light. Zelda.

"I'm using my power to hold the Evil King. You, use your sword and deliver the final blow!" Zelda called.

Suddenly the Master Sword glowed with a white light, bringing out it's full power. Link rushed around to Ganon's head staring at the now helpless titan that lay before him. He struck the beast 3 times, then delivered a final thrust to his skull as his head recoiled from the third strike. The beast rose crying in pain and madness swinging his swords randomly to were Link had to jump out of the way of the massive blades

"Six Sages, NOW!!!" yelled Zelda, forming a ball of golden energy in her hands and launching it into the air, before collapsing to her knees in exaustion. Link ran to Zelda's side, helping her to her feet.

"Are you alright, Zelda?" Link asked concerned.

"Yeah... I'll be-" Zelda gasped before she could finish that sentence "Look!"

A large white vortex had appeared behind Ganon sucking him slowly to it as he struggled agianst it, and the pain Link's blade had caused. Slowly his bidy began to shrink, and reshape into a humanoid form. He was Ganondorf once agian, and his power was gone. Link sheilded Zelda from the Hurricane-like wind caused by the hungry portal. Ganondorf was finally pulled into the vortex, screaming curses at the ones who trapped him here. The portal continued to expand, absorbing all the evil energies Ganondorf had plagued the world with. A white light filled Link and Zelda's vision until nothing else could be seen, then... Silence.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Link's eyes slowly adjusted to see his surroundings. No longer was he on the darkness shrouded arena were he fought Ganon. He was now standing in a blue sky, with small wisps of clouds all around him, and he was standing on appearent nothingness. Standing before him was none other than Zelda.
"Thank you Link!" She said. "Because of you Ganondorf is now trapped in the Evil Realm. Now peace will finally reign in this world, for a time."
Suddenly Link saw her eyes fill with sorrow and regret.
"Zelda?" Link said wrried.
"All the tragedy that has befallen Hyrule was my doing... I was so young, I could not contemplate the consequences of trying to control the Sacred Realm." Zelda said. "I dragged you into it to. Now it is time for me to make up for my mistakes."
Link couldn't believe it. How could she blame herself? Ganondorf was the one whp plunged the world into evil not her. And what could she mean by making up for her mistakes? Link got the answer as Zelda held out her hand.
"Zelda... I-" Zelda placed a finger to Link's lips silencing him.
"Link, give the ocariina to me." she said "As a sage, I can return you to your original time with it."
Link was taken aback by what he heard. Return to his original time? was she serious? 'She can't really mean that can she?' Link thought to himself. Slowly he took out the Ocarina of time and placed it in her hands, hoping she wasn't serious. To his surprise Zelda placed her free hand over his, however Link could see the sorrow in her eyes.
"When peace returns to Hyrule," She said slowly. "It will be time for us to say goodbye..."
This statement struck Link like a thousand daggers. She WAS serious! There was no way Link was going to let her do this. Link realised he still had his hand clasped on the blue ocarina. Before Zelda could take it he pulled the ocarina away from her grasp.
"Link? What-" Zelda began. This time it was Link who silenced her.
"Zelda, please... Let me say my peice." Link began. "Zelda... The suffering of these last 7 years were all Ganondorfs doing, not yours... The last one you should blame is yourself... You think I lost my time? You had to spend 7 years of your life hiding, alone, praying Ganondorf's men didnt find you. All I did was pull the Master Sword out, and then I just woke up 7 years later. I think you suffered much more than I did. What happened happened because of Ganondorf's greed, It was never your fault. I could care less about returning to my childhood if it meant leaving you to be alone agian... Please... Dont send me back." Link choked back a few tears. "Zelda... I..." Link stammered.
"You what Link?" Zelda said, her own eyes watering at Link's heartfelt speech.
"Zelda..." link began regaining control, looking back into Zelda's sapphire eyes. "...I love you. I have sense the day we met. I was to young to understand it then, but now it's clear to me..." Link finally said.
Zelda couldn't believe what she heard. She had always felt a strong connection with Link, but she had no idea he felt the same. Zelda then rushed to Link, wrapping her arms around him, choking back her own tears. Finally, she looked up at Link. This was the boy she met 7 years ago, he was barely taller than herself. He looked so innocent despite the sword and sheild on his back. Now he was man, who stood a full head taller than she, but as she looked into his eyes she could see the innocence of his youth was still there. Now mixed with the courageous determination of the hero he was.
Zelda then rushed to Link, wrapping her arms around him, which Link returned.
"Link..." She said slowly "I never knew... That you felt that way about me... I love you too. I always have."
"So you won't make me go back?" Link asked half sarcastically. He knew the answer already.
"Never..." Zelda said resting her head on his chest.
Link took Zelda's face with his hands, gently stroking her smooth skin. He then lowered his face to hers, taking her lips in his in a deep kiss. They remained that way for half a minute before breaking it off. Link held Zelda in his arms as they slowly decended to the world below.
